MENTORING & COACHING SERVICES
Horizon Scholarship Services is a free program that provides mentoring, coaching and other services to help students obtain "free money" for a four-year college degree. Many students and parents are unaware of all the scholarships that are available. They also lack the expertise and time to navigate the complexities of the scholarship research and application submission process. School guidance counselors are a valuable resource, but they simply do not have the time to give extensive personalized assistance to every student or to research scholarships for them. Horizon fills in the gap by serving as a scholarship advisor/coach to highly-motivated juniors and their parents. We work with students from December of their junior year through December of their senior year. (We offer free advice and information to seniors, sophomores and freshmen.) We work with students nationwide and can assist them with all aspects of finding and applying for funding for college. To date, we have helped students win more than $3 million in scholarships, grants and other financial aid.
Horizon Scholarship Services does not receive grant funding or donations to support its activities; it is a privately-funded, volunteer-operated program. Horizon is administered through Barbour Creative Solutions (BCS), a Clarksville, Tenn.-based marketing, public relations and freelance writing firm that helps companies worldwide promote their products, services and brand. BCS and Horizon are owned and operated by Tracy Barbour, who holds a Master of Science Degree in Business Management from Austin Peay State University, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication/Journalism from Eastern New Mexico University and a certification in Internet marketing. She enjoys using her 29 years of professional research, writing and marketing experience, along with her knowledge of scholarships, to assist students with pursuing their education goals. She is passionate about helping young people and giving back to the community.
To qualify for our Jump Start program for high school juniors, students must:
- complete a Program Application
- have a minimum 3.5 GPA *
- be accessible by email (and telephone if necessary)
- be willing to apply for at least six colleges/universities
- have at least a one-year history of volunteering/community service
- be willing to donate any amount they choose to our memorial scholarship at APSU
*Note: Exceptions may be made for the GPA for highly-motivated juniors with extreme financial need, a disability, or other adversities. There are limited slots available for the Jump Start program. Juniors who are not selected to participate in the program may download free information from our Resources page to support their efforts to apply for college and scholarships.
